Happy 2020!

What's Going On?

Hello everyone!  We have lots of changes to report this year.

Kayla

First, let’s talk about Kayla. Kayla graduated from Rowan University this past May with a degree in Advertising and a minor in Sociology! Yay for Kayla! We are so proud of her. She worked for several months for a small firm doing event planning, but found that she wanted to do more advertising work, so she is looking again. Shameless plug: if anyone knows of companies hiring entry level in advertising, mainly in the areas of Social Media, please let her know! (kaylaf222@gmail.com)

In addition to working on her job search, Kayla has been working again at Uno’s Restaurant in Maple Shade. She also has fun spending time with friends, line dancing and yoga.

In March, Kayla went to Israel to volunteer on a non-combat military base, as part of a program called Sar-El. She helped the soldiers organize equipment so they did not have to struggle to find the items if they are ever called to combat. In addition to enjoying the country, she made new friends from other parts of the U.S. and got to know some young Israelis who are currently serving there. She had an amazing time!

Mindy

Mindy continues to work as a Speech Therapist in the Camden School District. This is her 7th year there. Wow, time flies! One of the things that she likes about the job, in addition to helping kids who desperately need her help, is that she gets to mentor and supervise speech graduate students from local universities. They really appreciate working alongside such an experienced clinician.

Mindy has also been enjoying her Polymer Clay hobby. She has been organizing and hosting Polymer Clay Workshops at our home, teaching her craft to new friends from the neighborhood. Each participant got to make a piece that they could take home and show off. In addition, Mindy sold her work at a local holiday craft show at the Cherry Hill Library. It was the first show that she participated in a craft show in a while.

Mindy started playing Mahjong again this year. She joined a couple of groups with some really friendly women and made new friends.

Mike

Mike’s big news this year is that he retired at the end of July!  After 38 years as a Software Engineer, he decided that it was time.  While he still loves the industry and software technology, he wanted to focus more of his time on his family and other endeavors.  Since he left his job, he has been very busy with his usual hobbies of Photography, Music, Home Video, and Reading. In addition, he has been helping friends and family with their tech challenges, and has also been helping out with the web site of a local non-profit organization.  As many of his friends who have retired before him have said, he doesn’t know how he had time to work!

Travel

In addition to many day trips to the usual places like New York City and the shore, we spent wonderful weekends with cousins in Bethany Beach Delaware, and with friends in Cape May, NJ.  We also spent a week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which was really fun.  Lots of sunshine there!  In November, we visited with Mindy’s Aunt and Uncle down in Boynton Beach, Florida.  More sunshine!

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2020!

With love, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla
