Happy 2026

Greetings and Happy 2026 to everyone! We wanted to share with you what we have been up to during this past year. As we look back on 2025, we are grateful for a year where we were able to continue enjoying our interests while at the same time spending time with our cherished family and friends.

Time spent with our extended family is always a high point for us. We had many visits with cousins, nieces, and nephews this year. We spent a wonderful and meaningful Thanksgiving at the home of our nephew and niece, and their kids, in New York state, continuing a tradition that has always been a special time for us. The company with our extended family was superb and the food was, of course, delicious! It is one of our favorite holidays.

We are so proud of Kayla, who navigated a year of big transitions. She moved to a new apartment in the Baltimore area to start a new job and to be closer to her boyfriend, Pat, who lives near her. We are happy to report that the new position is going very well. Her cats, Nova and Autumn, made the move with her and are settling into their new home. Kayla is working as a Supports Planner/Social Worker at a local agency there, servicing an intellectually disabled and elderly population.

Mindy has been as active and creative as ever. She continues to enjoy her regular Mahjong and Canasta games with friends, which are always a highlight of her week. In addition, she has been helping to coach at Mahjong workshops led by a friend of hers. Her passion for polymer clay has also reached a new milestone. While she still displays her work at local craft shows, she has expanded her pursuits to teaching, sharing her skills by leading classes for others interested in learning about the art and craft of working with polymer clay. And she also has been taking collage, watercolor, and Mandala painting classes at the local library. Mindy continues to private speech clients as well.

A major highlight for Mike this year was attending the 50th reunions for the two high schools he attended in the DC area. Both reunions ended up being the same weekend, so it was a busy few days. He served on the committee for one of them and enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and also making some new ones. Mindy was a good sport and came along, and in fact helped out at the main event. She got to meet some very nice folks as well.

While we were in DC, we visited the National Air and Space Museum “Annex,” next to Dulles Airport, where we saw the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Concorde supersonic jet, and the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, and many, many other artifacts. The SR-71, famously known as the “Blackbird,” is a legendary long-range, high-altitude strategic reconnaissance aircraft. It remains one of the most iconic pieces of aviation engineering. But really the main reason for going there was to see the Space Shuttle, and it did not disappoint!

Another interesting and fun experience was taking a behind-the-scenes tour of a mostly robotic Amazon fulfillment center in northern New Jersey; it was impressive to see the scale of the facility (it is huge!) and that level of automation up close. Mike also attended the Vintage Computer Festival again this year. This event takes place in Wall, NJ, on the former site of the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America. Mike and a friend heard talks from famous industry pioneers and explored exhibits of historical equipment. This festival is a combination of interesting and historical computer technology as well as plenty of tech nostalgia.

Musically, it was a year of both celebration and bittersweet goodbyes. Mike enjoyed a performance by the legendary Herb Alpert, which was an amazing concert, and he also attended the final performance of the famous Wanamaker/Macy’s pipe organ. The store was permanently closing, so various organists played a selection of wonderful pieces, making it a truly memorable and moving farewell to a historic and enormous instrument.

In addition to his other activities, Mike was often out with his drone, continuing to capture new perspectives through photography and video, and attending local meetups with fellow drone enthusiasts.

It was also a big year for sports and “uncle duties”. Mike took his twin nephews to several exciting “firsts,” including their first Philadelphia Flyers game and their first professional soccer match with the Philadelphia Union. The sports adventures didn’t stop there; Mike, his brother, and his sister-in-law took the twins to their first NASCAR race at the Pocono Raceway. Mike didn’t know much about the details of the sport, and once he was “educated” by his nephew, he understood it much better! It was a very fun day.

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2026!

With love, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla

Happy 2025

Greetings and Happy 2025 to everyone! We wanted to share with you what we have been up to during the past year.

Mike and Mindy had some very fun travel experiences! First, we traveled to Johnson City, Tennessee, to visit close friends. We had a wonderful time exploring the surrounding area which has many beautiful mountains and which provided both very scenic views as well as some wonderful hiking opportunities. We explored nearby Jonesborough, where our friends own an art gallery where they display their works, as well as works of other local artists. While there, we were able to join a painting class, run by our artist friend, which was a very fun and different experience. In Mike’s case, the old saying, “Don’t quit your day job,” applies here, even though he doesn’t have a day job! We made a day trip to visit the artist community at the River Art District in Asheville, NC. While there, we met many of the artists in their studios, and they sell their artwork there. Unfortunately, 5 days after our visit, the whole area was flooded and completely underwater due to Hurricane Helene. It was such a terrible tragedy with so much destroyed, both the buildings and the beautiful artwork which we had just been able to enjoy.

In September we visited with our Aunt Michele and Uncle Michael in Boynton Beach, Florida for a few days. A highlight of our stay was a visit to the Morikami Museum, which has an interesting history and beautiful grounds which we explored. After that wonderful visit, we embarked on a 5-day cruise to the Caribbean. We boarded the Sun Princess ship in Ft. Lauderdale. While the ship is very large and can accommodate about 3,000 guests, we were part of a group of 120 Mah Jongg enthusiasts. Mike doesn’t play, so he had some quality time by himself relaxing, reading, and exploring the ship, while Mindy played many sessions of Mah Jongg. We had 2 ports of call: Dominican Republic and Grand Turk, where we enjoyed the local beaches.

We spent Thanksgiving at our niece and nephew’s home in the Boston area, along with our extended family. Thanksgiving has always been a special time in our family, and this one continued in that tradition.

In addition to these longer trips, we had a number of day and overnight trips to Ocean City, NJ, Cape May, and Long Beach Island.

Mindy has been busy as usual with her Polymer Clay pursuits. She has been developing some new designs, many of which she has added to her Etsy Shop and exhibited at recent local craft shows. Mindy has also been enjoying playing both Mah Jongg and Canasta which provide lots of social time with her friends. She has been playing Mah Jongg for many years, but Canasta is a newer interest for her.  Meanwhile, Mindy won’t retire from her speech therapy career because she loves it so much, so she continues to see a few clients in her private practice.

Mike continues his passion for flying his drone in interesting places to capture both still photos and video from a different perspective than can be achieved on the ground. In addition to his current “camera drone,” he built his first “First Person View,” or FPV drone, which is a different type of drone that allows the pilot to do complicated acrobatic maneuvers. He built it with the help of his friends in the Jersey Droners group that he has been part of for several years now. The build was pretty challenging, but it is working properly! A friend from the group tested it for him, while he is honing his piloting skills on a flight simulator so that he can fly it himself.

FPV drone build

Mike photographed the solar eclipse which took place in April. The sky was pretty cloudy that day in South Jersey, but he was able to get this photo during a short break in the clouds:

In November, we were honored to attend the beautiful wedding of our niece Sarah to Eric. It was a night to remember! They make such a beautiful couple! Kayla was also honored to be a bridesmaid.

Mike and Kayla, along with a close friend, attended their first pro soccer game, where the Philadelphia Union played the Washington DC team, D.C. United. The Union’s stadium is a wonderful venue. It was a great game, with Philadelphia winning the game, 4-0!

Some concerts that Mike attended this year, some with Mindy and some with friends. These included Bruce Springsteen (of course!), Graham Nash, Samantha Fish, who is a really talented blues guitarist. All were very enjoyable!

Kayla continues to live in her apartment in Voorhees, NJ, with her cat, Nova, and a newer kitten, Autumn. She is a Social Worker and has a newer job, where she is a Support Coordinator helping intellectually developmentally disabled individuals. In this role, she helps coordinate needed services for her clients and periodically visits them in their homes to ensure that they are getting what they need. We are very proud of her!  Kayla enjoys reading, country line dancing, and visiting local wineries with her friends.

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2025!

With love, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla

Happy 2024!

Hi everyone. The big news of 2023 is that Kayla graduated in May with a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers University! We were so excited to attend her graduation ceremony and to watch her receive her diploma. She worked very hard to get to this point. You may remember that she has been working at Catholic Charities in Camden, first as an intern and then as a full-time employee. She had been there for over 2 years, and really liked working there. However, she recently felt that she needed a change and just last week she started a new position as a Social Worker at St. Mary’s Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. We are so very proud of her!

In other Kayla news, she is now living in an apartment in Voorhees, NJ, with her very cute kitty, Nova. It is great that she is living so close to us. Her apartment is conveniently located close to her new job and to shopping.

Mike and Mindy had a very fun trip to Florida to visit with our aunt and uncle. We had a relaxing time hanging out, going to the beach and pool, and flying Mike’s drone. The weather was beautiful. We also had a wonderful visit with cousins in Cape Cod, where we enjoyed each other’s company and shared in some delicious food, in addition to exploring areas nearby which we hadn’t been before.

We attended two lovely weddings of cousins – one outside of Philly and one in Ypsilanti, Michigan, which is near Ann Arbor. We loved helping the newlyweds celebrate and were honored to have been included. We had some time to explore Ann Arbor, which we had never been to before.  The whole area there is really delightful.

We had many visits to the beach much closer to home during the summer. We enjoyed visiting Atlantic City, Margate, Long Beach Island, Ocean City (NJ), Cape May, and Bethany Beach (in Delaware) with both family and friends. We hope to do more traveling in 2024.

Mindy has been continuing to see a few private clients, both in person and on Zoom. She enjoys hanging out and walking with friends and playing Canasta and Mah Jongg weekly. She has also been keeping busy with her crafts and selling them at craft shows and on Etsy.

Mike has been keeping busy as well, doing lots of reading, photography, droning, music, watching movies, and some computer and web-related work. He also attended several concerts – two highlights were seeing Bruce Springsteen and Buddy Guy.

Unfortunately, our beloved cat Cookie passed away in February. He was only 5 years old. We only had him for 3 years, but he had some serious feline diseases which we knew did not have a good prognosis. He was a sweetheart, and we miss him very much.

We hope that everyone is doing well and that we can see more of you in the coming year.

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2024!

With love, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla

Happy 2021!

2020, huh?

Hello everyone! Well, 2020 – what can we say? This has been a trying year for all of us – some much more than others. We are very sad for all of the people who have been lost to the pandemic this year, as well as all others who have been affected negatively through loss of family members, jobs/income, not being able to go to school, graduations and other related activities. Our hearts go out to all – we hope that you are able to get through what will be left of this horrible pandemic.

We wanted to relay a little of what we have been up to during 2020.

Kayla

Kayla decided to attend graduate school, working towards a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She started this past September at Rutgers University in an online, 3 year program. She really likes it so far, and has been doing very well! In addition, she is still working a few days a week at her same restaurant, Uno Pizzeria and Grill. Back in March, Kayla decided to foster a cat named Cookie. He is a very lovable cat, but has some medical issues. He is relatively healthy at this point, hopefully it will stay that way for a while. Kayla has also been doing some contract work in advertising.

Mindy

Mindy was laid off from her position in the Camden School District at the end of June, due to the pandemic and funding. Although it was a difficult transition, she has been realizing that retirement might come sooner than she originally planned. During the pandemic, she has been spending her time crafting, baking, playing Mah Jongg online, organizing things around the house, doing puzzles, in addition to seeing a few private clients. Socially distanced speech therapy is a challenge. It was conducted with masks either outside on the patio when the weather was nice, in the opened garage, and then virtually. Mindy and Kayla experimented with sour dough bread, knishes, blintzes, fresh pasta, and also tried their hand at bagels. Everything turned out very delicious! Mindy started an Etsy store with her new line of mask necklaces (etsy.com/shop/FoxHandmadeCreations) and Mike is helping her update her web page with her polymer clay creations. You can view it here:  foxcreations.com  She participated in a few socially distanced craft shows, in which some of the proceeds benefited the local theater in which we are members

Mike

Mike is up to his usual hijinks. He continues to enjoy his hobbies of photography, music, reading, movies, and home video.  He also continues to help out with the web site of a local non-profit organization.  In addition, he has flown his drone quite a bit more in 2020, getting more confident in his piloting.  One of the reasons that he likes this hobby is that it is a fun combination of 3 things that he really likes:  flying, photography, and video.  You can see some of his photos below.  One of Mike’s biggest pandemic activities was to do a total rehab of his home office.  It is something he has wanted to do for years, and it was a very big project!

In other Mike news:  On December 3rd, he had cardiac bypass surgery.  All went extremely well, and he is very thankful for his medical team and all of the doctors and nurses who cared for him.  Mindy has been wonderful taking care of him during this time, for which he is very appreciative!  His recovery has been going great, and hopefully he will be back to normal soon.

Travel

Travel this year has been quite a bit less than other years, just like everyone else.  We did manage to get a number of day trips in to the Jersey Shore, mostly Brigantine, Ocean City (NJ) and Margate.  We are hoping to get around more once things start to be safe.  We hope to see as many of our family and friends as possible, making up for lost time!

Is it really 2023 already???

Hello once again! We hope that you and your families were well during 2022, another very challenging year for so many. We have been doing pretty well, and have started venturing out more and more this year. It has been so wonderful to be able to finally see our family and friends. Here are some quick updates on our year.

In February/March, Mike and Mindy traveled to Florida to visit with family and friends. We made stops at Sarasota, St. Pete Beach (near Tampa), Naples, and Boynton Beach We enjoyed the beautiful weather and beaches, of course, as well as visiting with some folks whom we hadn’t seen in a very long time, which was very special to us.

We also made other trips to visit family dear to us, traveling to Boston twice, Larchmont, NY, New York City, and Washington DC.

We took many day and weekend trips to our usual spots at the Jersey Shore, such as Ocean City (NJ), Atlantic City, Asbury Park, Long Beach Island, Margate, and Cape May. Some were just Mindy and Mike, and for other trips we visited with friends. Always a fun time. And, of course, there many droning opportunities for Mike!

Kayla

The biggest news for Kayla and her fiance Shane is that they just bought a house together. Settlement was just a few days ago and they are in the process of moving in. Their house is in Millville, NJ, which is a little bit south of us. We are so proud of Kayla for pulling this together and are excited to see them enjoy and grow in their own place!

Kayla continues to work at Catholic Charities, in Camden, NJ, as an Intensive Case Manager. She is thriving there and getting very good experience in her new career, as well as making a significant impact on the local community. She will finish her Master of Social Work degree with Rutgers in May of 2023. She has truly found what she loves to do, and it makes us very happy indeed!

Mindy

Mindy has been playing Mah Jongg more and more this year! She has really enjoyed making new friends with this fun game. She and her different groups play both online and in person. There is a really great Mah Jongg community both near and far that she has become part of.

Mindy also has done a few craft shows this year with her Polymer Clay creations, mostly jewelry. She really loves sharing her art with others. She even hosted a weekend show at our home, and many people stopped by to check out her wares. In addition, she has continued hosting her Fox Creations shop on Etsy. She loves hearing the bell ring indicating a sale!

Lastly, Mindy enjoys helping private speech clients on an ongoing basis.

Mike

Mike has been having some fun adventures too. He has been getting more into droning, especially because he likes the interesting perspectives that the images give you. It is often easier to see the beauty of a location from the sky. He enjoys creating both still photos and videos of his drone excursions. In addition, he has met some wonderful new friends through drone meetups in and around New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Of course Mike continues to help people with tech concerns and web sites. In particular he helps maintain the site of a local non-profit environmental group. During the past year, he has been serving on the board of his camera club. Speaking of photography, a high point for Mike is attending the Atlantic City Air Show in August, which he did this year with a good friend, where they saw the Air Force Thunderbirds perform, among many other types of aircraft.

Mike has attended a number of concerts this past year, some with Mindy, and some with other family or friends. These included: Ringo Starr, Buddy Guy, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Santana with Earth Wind and Fire, and Bonnie Raitt. All were very enjoyable with incredible music and vibes!

Happy 2022!

Here we go again

Hello once again! 2021 has been a challenging year for so many, and we hope that you and your families are hanging in there as best as you can. We are very grateful that we have been doing pretty well. We have been mostly laying low, but also trying our best to stay in touch with family and friends.

In April, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla traveled to Boynton Beach, Florida to visit with our Aunt Michele and Uncle Michael. While there we also visited with Mindy’s brother Michael and partner Lynne. It was the first time we have traveled anywhere for a long time, and while it felt a little strange to do so, we made it with no issues. It is a very nice area of Florida, with beautiful weather and beaches, of course.

In May we also celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary (!!) with a long weekend trip to nearby Jim Thorpe, in Pennsylvania. We have never been there before. It is just north of Allentown in the Pocono Mountains, with beautiful scenery. In addition to some tasty meals, we rode on a scenic railway, hiked in Lehigh Gorge State Park, and took a tour of an old coal mine, which was very interesting.

We also took some day trips to our usual spots at the Jersey Shore, such as Ocean City (NJ), Atlantic City, Long Beach Island, and Margate. It is great being so close to beaches and surf.

Kayla

Kayla’s big news is that she and her boyfriend Shane are engaged! Shane proposed in a romantic setting on the beach in Long Beach Island. She happily said “yes!” They are planning to wait to get married until the fall of 2024. We are very happy for them!

Kayla is continuing with her Masters of Social Work program at Rutgers University in Camden.  Her coursework is mostly online (unrelated of Covid). She loves her program, which includes a series of internships at Catholic Charities in Camden, NJ. Kayla was working there 3 days a week, and really loving it. Well, it looks like they like her too, because they asked her to interview for a full time position. She successfully interviewed and was offered that position in October! Very exciting for her! She is getting excellent experience, and providing significant assistance to her clients. We are so proud of her.

Kayla decided to leave her job at Uno Restaurant. She had worked there on and off for 3 years, and had some great experiences and fun times there.

Mindy

Mindy has been focusing more on her crafts this year, and exhibited her Polymer Clay art at a few local craft shows. She has also expanded her Etsy shop with many new items, and it has received quite a bit of attention during the holiday shopping season. (Link is below if you want to take a look.) Mindy has also been maintaining her private Speech Therapy practice, and enjoys helping younger children with a variety of speech delays.

Mindy has also been playing a lot of Mah Jongg, mostly virtually with a group of friends, but also sometimes in person when it is safe.

Mike

Mike is up to his usual hijinks with his photography, drone adventures, music, movies, socializing, reading, podcasts, and helping friends and family with their computer projects and issues. It all keeps him very busy, but he feels very lucky that he can now fully pursue some of his passions. You can see some of his recent drone photos in the gallery below.

In August, Mike finally made it to see the Springsteen on Broadway show in New York, in the last week of its run.  In this one-man show Bruce tells the story of his life, interspersed with him performing on guitar and piano.  It was a once in a lifetime event for him.  For Mike, not Bruce.

Cookie

Lastly, but not least, we experienced what many have called a “Foster Fail,” which means that we have officially adopted our wonderful kitty Cookie into our family. He is so nice to have around, and is such a great companion. Some of you may have seen some of the many photos of him that Mike has posted on Facebook. He recently informed Mike that he will soon be getting an agent to represent him, lol.

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2022!

With love, Mike, Mindy, and Kayla

Wow!  You have made it to the end, thank you so much for reading!
